Awakening By Moonlight
Fan Fiction
Years ago...
The woman ran through the woods, she ran and ran as fast as she could. But no matter how much she ran she just couldn't shake the feeling of the ominous presence breathing down her neck...and she was right. Someone--or something--was chasing her, and it was getting closer.
The woman kept running, trying to ignore the body's messages to rest. She couldn't rest. She couldn't stop. Not now. Not when she had a family to care for. Two beautiful daughters and one loving husband. She just wanted a normal life. A life where she and her family could move away from all this. To move away from this war-torn land and avoid exile. But at every turn there was always something else. Something that prevented them from going any further.
But she had to at least try. She had to. For her family. She couldn't fail them. And not when she is being threatened by a sinister shadow trailing her.
She made it halfway across the woods; she could see the fire inside the cabin from miles away. She was beginning to gain more spring in her step after panting in partial relief but that did not shake the feeling of fear that came from behind her. She frantically turned her head from side to side to see if she had put any distance between her and her pursuer, and she tried hard not to look back.
But she did. And the moment she turned her head behind...she tripped and fell.
She hit the ground, immediately backing away from the opposite direction of her path. She didn't see her pursuer, but she knew he--or she--was still there.
Finally finding enough energy to run she got up and continued on her path.
With continuous sprinting she finally made it. She looked behind her and sighed in relief that she was alone. She opened the door and was greeted by the smiling face of her husband and children.
She then began to smile in return...until she heard a sudden roar from her right side...and she was tackled to the ground.
She looked up and saw a horrifying visage of a body that was a mixture between a human and beast--much like a wolf. She looked at the thing up and down and blinked her eyes twice at the monster's chest. She wondered, could it be a female?
Her curiosity was short lived as the monster growled and bit into her shoulder. The woman screamed in pain as the monster dug its teeth into her skin. In the midst of her attack she saw her husband out of the corner of her eye she saw her husband swinging something sharp. It hit the monster in its side. The monster roared in pain angrily and attacked him.
She breathed heavily as one of her daughters, her oldest yet young one, rushed to her side she screamed for her mother to wake up, tears streaming down her face.
The woman kept panting as she looked to the side to see her younger daughter hiding behind a set of logs and her husband being overpowered and maimed by the beast.
Before she passed out, she looked up at the full moon in the sky, it's light was the brightest thing she could see. It was so bright she almost felt as if it was calling to her.
Then everything went black as her daughter's cries faded away...
--
Babette Chayse blinked her eyes open to piercing rays of sunlight as she woke up from another nightmare. The nightmare was the same as all the others. She would try to find some way of peace, and then it would be broken by that same nightmare, that cursed memory....
Babette sighed as she slowly rose from her makeshift bed--a patch of soft grass in the middle of a field not far from the woods.
As Babette turned to observe her surroundings, she figured that she was not far from home since she was close to the woods. However that was not the only thing she was concerned about. As she looked down at her body, she saw herself unshod of clothing, covered in blood. She looked at her bloodstained hands, resisting the urge to lick them clean.
She put a hand up to her head. She hated for this to happen. She hated it when "it" happened. Every night, every kill. It only did nothing but make her life worse. The curse was growing
stronger every full moon. Ever since that fateful night and the death of her husband, her
humanity was slowly fading away to the nature of the beast.
Her two daughters, Mariette and Cosette, they were all she had left. The only ones safe from the terrors of the past. She would hold on to whatever shreds of humanity she had left to keep her daughters safe from the chaos, and the nobles if need be.
Finally standing up, she began to make her trek back to her home.
After a few minutes of walking she finally reached it: an abandoned mill beside a wooden cabin.
She hoped her daughters were still be asleep as she walked in slowly, careful not to make too much sound as she padded around the cabin on bare feet. She made sure to stop by the twins' bedroom and to her relief, they were soundly asleep. Cosette had moved out of her bed to sleep with Mariette, her older sibling holding her in a tight loving embrace.
Babette smiled to herself as she moved to the bathroom, grabbing a bathrobe as she walked back outside to the nearby well, gathering water that she carried back to the cabin as she began to bathe herself clean.
--
After a long, relaxing bath and wearing fresh new clothing, Babette prepared breakfast for her young ones: eggs with ham and toast with strawberry jam. She turned her head to the top of the stairs as she looked to see Mariette, still dressed in her nightgown.
Babette smiled as she piled food onto two plates for herself and her daughter and sat them on the table.
"Did you sleep well last night, sweetheart?" Babette said as she forked a piece of egg.
Mariette half-smiled back while looking at her plate. "I slept fine as always, mother, and so did Cosette." She replied softly as she bit into a piece of toast.
"And how did you sleep last night mother?"
Babette partially took a minute to swallow her food and think of her answer before speaking.
"Just like you sweetheart, fine as always." She replied.
Mariette just looked at her for a minute before turning her attention back to her food.
After finishing most of her food, Babette turned her attention to the top of the stairs.
"Is Cosette coming to eat?" Babette asked.
"I doubt it, mother, she doesn't feel like eating much today." Said Mariette.
Babette sighed as she picked up her plate and put it away. She then grabbed her multicolored cloak and walked to the door.
"I am going to get us some food from the market. Watch after your sister until I get back." Babette said getting up from her seat.
"I will, mother." Mariette said without looking up from her plate.
After putting on some more suitable civilian clothes, Babette walked out of the house, taking note of the sun in the sky.
"I still have time," she said walking into the woods.
--Afternoon--
The markets were bustling with crowds of peasants, merchants, and warrior knights, most of whom are fighting for more personal gains than that of honor and justice.
One figure walked through the streets in a beige cloak hooded over her eyes, hiding the fear and anxiety shown on her face.
Babette walked briskly, but cautiously through the crowds, making her way to the produces and raw meat.
She constantly looked around being aware of the people around her. She only came to get food and come home before nightfall. Easy enough if you weren't catching stares from perverted men.
She finally made it to her destination, a stand full of tomatoes, eggplants, and other vegetables. But the one thing Babette couldn't keep her eyes away from was the red, juicy steaks and pork loins.
They looked so good that she could almost taste it....
Babette growled as she tore into the defenseless corpse. Her tongue exploded with sensations of sweet and savory flavors beyond imagination. She raised her head upward, golden eyes flickering open as she looked up to the moon, its light revealing her face, a feral visage with bloodstained teeth. Her moans grew deeper as she began to convulse, audible stretching and cracking sounds could be heard from her body as she grew, her moans finally turned to growls as her face stretched forward into a wolfish muzzle as she began to howl at the moon....
"Are you alright there, miss?"
Babette snapped back to reality as she shook her head and looked back to the clerk.
"S-sorry, I was just lost in thought....may I have some eggplants and....p-pork if you please...."
"Why of course, ma'am."
The clerk handed over the food to Babette. She paid and turned away to leave, feeling relieved.
"Excuse me miss?"
Babette turned around.
"Yes...?"
"I'm afraid you'll be needing more gold than
this."
"But, it's all I have..."
The clerk smiled. "If I say more, you're gonna need more, so hand it over!"
He grabbed her by the arm, she pulled away and started to run, only to run into a strong pair of
arms.
"Where d'ya think you're goin'?" The brute said before a hood was put over her head.
----
Mariette gazed at the setting sun over the horizon; her mother was still out there looking for
food. She looked at Cosette. The girl looked so weak and helpless.
"Don't worry sister," she said. "We will make it out of this together."
She kissed her sister's cheek beef before getting getting up to leave outside.
----
Babette ran. She ran on bare feet, wearing only her cloak and her tattered dress. She ran as fast as she could as her memories came flashing back....
Babette struggled in the grip of the two brutes as she screamed for help. Unfortunately, her cries went unheard in the secluded prison-like underground basement full of tools and the stench of dried blood.
"Keep her held steady!" Said the clerk. "I want her clean when we start playing with her!"
The clerk ripped off her cloak, then walked over to a lever on the wall.
After pulling it down, the skylight above opened to reveal the last thing Babette wanted to see-- a full moon.
She wanted to close her eyes but she couldn't; the light already began to bore into her very soul leaving her paralyzed at its sight.
The red haired brute wasted no time tearing opened the top of Babette's dress exposing the pert cleavage underneath her clothing.
"Awww, aren't you just a pretty little sweet thing!" He said.
"Aye to that brother," the brown haired one said. "I can almost taste her now..."
He leaned over and began to lick her stomach, feeling her taking in breaths to feeling her heartbeat.
The sensation made Babette more than terrified -- it made her angry.
She broke free from the brute holding her down and clawed her captor in his eye.
The man screamed, giving her a chance to escape. She ran through many hallways, until bursting through a door leading to the outside.
The woman ran leaving her shoes behind as she sprinted her way back home in hopes of avoiding the inevitable.
---
But now she was already too late, the full moon's light was out, and her worst fears came to light as the curse reared its ugly head.
"Uhh!" Babette cried as she felt a convulsion in her stomach. It cost her to trip and fall for she looked up at the moon, it's light awakening something primal within her.
"Mother!"
Babette looked back to hear a voice calling out her name. The sight brought tears to her eyes.
Mariette ran towards her mother grabbing her by the arms. "Are you alright? Are you hurt?" She said.
Babette only could only bow her head down with tears in her eyes.
"Mariette," she said. "If you love me....run."
Mariette was shocked. "Mother...?"
Babette suddenly looked up with golden eyes and sharpened teeth.
"RrrrruUUUNNnn!" She growled as her ears lengthened.
Mariette backed away, terrified.
Her mother's body convulsed. She raised her head upwards as she spread her arms to her sides as her hands splayed open as her fingertips swelled as the nails burst, turning into claws. Her biceps swelled as she clenched her fists, drawing blood that began to drip from her growing, paw-like hands.
Veins pulsed across pale skin as her body began to swell and stretch muscles began to bubble and inflate under the skin. Her appearance retaining its feminine features as it grew to take a much larger, more brutish appearance as her stomach began to make gurgling sounds as her abdominal muscles swelled forming an emerging six-pack beneath the skin. Above her stomach, her breasts began to swell and push forward against her tattered clothing, exposing her more ample mammaries.
Mariette could only watch in horror as her mother bent over her as her spine swelled and popped, the vertebrae showing up on the skin as her back muscles swelled forming a deep crevice.
Her calves and thighs cracked and shifted as they lengthened and grew, the muscles ballooned against the skin. Her bare feet began to take the same clawed appearance as her hands as they grew and shifted into a digitigrade stance.
Babette roared in pain as she grew even larger, the already tattered dress began to tear away as it exposed her now massive nude body which began to be covered in dark brown fur.
Her short hairstyle lengthened into a savage mane as her partially human face stretched
forward, her nose swelled and turned black as she growled through sharpening incisors when her face grew into a complete muzzle.
With a few more body-quaking spasms, the last of Babette's dress was torn apart as the scraps floated to the ground.
Mariette looked in shock at the creature that was once her mother, it's size overshadowing her even in its hunched form. The creature grasped it's head as it breathed heavily.
"There she is!"
Mariette looked to see the three men coming up the forest path.
"You can't get away from -- eh...?"
"Wha -- what the..."
They stopped in their tracks when the beast rose to its full height, blocking the moon's light.
The beast turned around revealing two glowing pools of gold. The men could only stare in horror when the beast roared and lunged at them with no hesitation.
The screams of the men didn't even faze Mariette as she watched them get torn apart like rag dolls and cotton shreds.
After the carnage ended, the beast sunk it's teeth into one of its victims, savoring the kill until she heard a voice calling behind her.
"Mother..."
The beast turned around and glared at the little girl....and lunged at her.
The girl didn't even bother struggling when the beast bit into her shoulder. It considered claiming her as another snack until a small silver of her human mind urged her to run away.
The beast left the chaos she created behind as she reached the side of a cliff. Waves brushed up against the mountainside as the werewolf brought its arms together, then released them as she raised her head and howled to the full moon.
---
Mariette looked up at the moon its light shone prettier than any precious gem.
"So beautiful." She croaked out as she slowly got up from the ground.
By looking at the moon she felt something within her start to stir. A strange sensation that became stronger as she stared at the moon.
"Ugh..."
Mariette turned to look at the survivor of her mother's attack struggling to stay awake.
"H-Help... please..." he managed to get out.
Mariette looked at the man for a moment -- and then growled and lunged for his stomach.
The man screamed as his guts were torn out before succumbing to his wounds.
Mariette raised her head with glowing gold eyes, licking her lengthened, sharper teeth, savoring the sweet taste.
A sound caused her to look back in the direction of where her mother had gone.
The sound awakened the sensations stirring within her body as organs shift,
bones cracked, and muscles swelled.
"Yessss..." She growled as her visage stretched into a savage and frightful grin.
"I hear you, mother....and I will be joining you soon...."
At that moment, a second howl answered the first, signaling the birth of a new creature of the night.
