Couple of areas that need adjusting now that I see them with fresh eyes.
After taking a good long look at the newer versions of these 2 fighting I had done I realized a couple things about this pic.
1) Orphan didn't look nearly as big as she needed to compared to the newer works.
and 2) That Standards pose was pretty boring.
Doing large overhauls on already completed works can be a major pain given how many layers there are to work around. So instead of trying to fill in the holes of dozens of layers I decided that I'll just redo the backgrounds colors completely.
Will save a lot of time overall, that and I'm thinking the colors should be brought more in line with the later pieces. A warmer light source than the original cold.
Tell me what you think and if there's other aspects u wouldn't mind seeing me take another crack at while I'm at it.
I'm considering shortening the fur on Orphan's shoulders too since that aspect evolved as I continued drawing her over a years time.
Starting to feel like I'm never gonna be done with this product. I think though that once its all done that I'd like to crowd fund a hard cover book for those interested. Gotta research the best way to go about it. Seen some very nice crowd funded books that were very affordable.
Oh yeah don't forget the roll for loot contest ends tomorrow. spread the word and help raise the reward pot. ^ o^
Put together this simple Shirt design using some of the avatars I created from my various Crimson Dames pieces up to this point.
Their having a sale over at Teepublic right now if ur interested in any of my designs. :p
sadly the discount comes out of my cut of the profits where are abysmally small to begin with.
But its more important that my works are out in the wild getting noticed. ^ o^
They got sizes upward of 5XL and other various products. Check em out. ^ o6
Birthday Sketch Reward, i think I tend to go a bit overboard when the request involves one of my characters. > _>
Today ima get to work on redoing one of the novella pieces featuring Orphan.
Will be putting Standard in a more dynamic pose, and scale her down so she better fits the difference is size the later illustrations have them at.
Not sure if I should redo the colors for the background to be warmer the way they were for the later pieces. I guess early in i had the idea that the lanterns would provide a colder light till the fires got rolling. not so sure now tho.
Sorry it took so long with this one. Got it posted up on Teepublic and the Perilous Quest Gallery.
I don't get much of a cut per sale but wearing my work in the wild helps to raise awareness of my works. ^ o^
I'll get the High Res Version posted soonish for patrons.
I think I might try my hand at another quick design using some of the avatar crops I've made up to this point. Should be quick yet effective. Hopefully.
Please help spread the word, I need all the help I can get! ^ o^
I think I should be able to get this finished up tonight,
Is finally coming together what its final form should look like.
I still need to make some adjustments to the scrolls text and I just noticed the windows line weight feels off. Might end up giving the whole thing a much bolder outline for the final version that would go to print.
not to late to get me feed back on issues you think need addressing. Don't worry if your skill level isn't what mine is, if something feels off speak your mind and help bring it to my attention to make it better. ^ _^
inks are pretty much done now and am adding the flats.
Will have to play around with the colors, If I make everything black it wont read very well on a shirt.
Though my initial instinct is to keep everything with varying shades of charcoal, perhaps splashes of red.
Tell me what you think so far. I need to adjust the left wings shroud a tad balance feels off.
I used to offer monthly sketch rewards to patrons but at some point the workload started to drain my ability to focus on my main projects.
So now I offer the monthly "Roll For Loot" contest were upwards of 3 contestants can win a personalized sketch request.
I also offer them as birthday gifts to members of the "Crimson Dames Discord Server" (Even to non Patrons)
And sometimes I offer them up randomly as a gift to people I identify as being in dire need of a pick me up. To help offer something a bit more exciting for them to look forward to.
Why I recommend that peeps join up with the server and participate. To help strengthen your network of peeps, and be kept in the know of interesting goings on.
If or rather "When? my work starts to gain traction and eventually reaches critical mass, I'll open a secondary server to ensure that those earliest peeps who were there from the beginning will have their platform preserved before it becomes flooded with new peeps.
To ensure my core fans have the strongest voice in influencing the growth of my works. ^ _^
Not every sketch may be my best work but they do help me to continue improving my penciling skills.

Lost a couple days of work due to being kidnapped over the weekend, and a bit more time trying to get my sleep schedule back to something not completely insane.
that left wing just doesn't want to cooperate right now. Will have to try flipping it over to see whats wrong.
I was contemplating putting in a design for the glass windows tho mebbe if the glass were broken would be more interesting / read better for a shirt design, will have to experiment.
Lost a day or so on this project due to my sleep schedule starting to flip over to day shift.
Left wing needs a bit of work still, but I think its starting to feel just about where it needs to be now.
What do you think so far??
I'm planning to make this one be a shirt designso I wont have to do much with a background.
Not sure if I should get crazy and actually have names written on the scroll. XD
I'll have to do a Lore entry for this character at some point. I draw him every so many years and its fun seeing how his design has evolved.
Hrmm, still not quite sure about this just yet.
Wings feel a bit too small at the moment.
The scythes position still feels too static. I'm wondering if I shouldn't just bite the bullet and put work in some forced perspective.
Issue I'm running into is finding an interesting position for his arms to fit its current position.
I'll continue playing with it to ensure its worth putting onto a shirt. ^ _^
I wanted to do something a bit lighter for my next piece and remembered I had this older sketch laying around.
So was cleaning it up some. Looking at it now though his body language feels a bit too benign so I'm thinking that might just redraw it to get something a bit more threatening.
Since its a simpler piece without a major background I think It might end up being ideal for a shirt design.
Tell me what you think, I crave feed back, feed it to me! XD
Finally it's complete!
I had to walk back the colors for the phantom, but also adjusted the colors and shading. It works much better now.
As this is a Novella piece I sadly cannot allow the final version to be loosed into the public just yet.
Copper Tier Patrons and up though will have early access to the Completed version!
With / Without Logo, High Res, and the .PST are available for the various Tiers.
For as little as 2 dollars a month or an equivelant one time donation You can recieve access to this and much more!
A little goes a long way towards helping me to work towards improving my living condition and speeding up production! ^ o^
Don't forget to tell me what you think of the finished product! ^ o^
Brother mentioned that the phantom looks too much as though shes made out of an oily bubble, and that he preferred the blue.
I had changed it from the blue initially because it felt as though it were clashing too hard with the orange and reds of the rest of the scene.
I'll tone down some of the sheen and see if I can find a better color for the phantom.
Thinking about it now maybe it would work better if the smaller tendrils coming through the walls were desaturated, and let your eyes more thoroughly focus on her main body.
Or perhaps I should take it a step further and remove a couple of said tendrils to make it feel less busy.
Hrmm yeah I think that will help out alot as well.
Working in the colors and textures for the phantom.
Its sort of like a liquid or slime capable of passing through walls.
I'm trying to get a sense of it casting a light glow. Not sure how well the effect comes across just yet.
Lots of refining to do still. I'll start working in the light source from the fire place in next.
Why did I design such a crazy chimney? XD
I need to put in all of the background for this piece since the Monstress' phantasmal form will be translucent.
Its starting to come along though.
Not sure about that left hand just yet though.
How does it feel to you so far??
yesterday/morning's progress. Am trying to get my sleep schedule back onto day shift again. For the umpteenth time.
I adjusted the position of her legs and arms a bit, and made the ghostly tendrils a bit more dynamic as well as added in some of the smaller sub ghost offshoots. The Ssudo Clones she can produce from her body.
It feels like it's just about ready to start inking.
What will be challenging is that given the translucent nature of the Monstress I'll have to ink the entirety of the background before drawing her in so I can be sure to get the points where shes piercing through the walls to work out correctly.
How do you feel about the piece overall?
This is the moment before she ends up cracking the ceiling allowing some of the moonlight into the space. Which is out of sync from the lunar cycle of the outside world.
This is one of several sketches I made for the novella almost over half a year ago that I'm only just now getting back to.
I reached a point where I opted to pump out several sketches to get a better sense of where I needed to guide the writing along.
As with all of the works I sketched out half a year back this one wasn't without its fatal flaws.
Orphans leg is stretched across the perspective to such a degree as to be ridiculously long or having just been ripped off
I removed the chair from the corner to make Orphan cloak more pronounced and the center of focus. I'll probably play with its over all shape a lot more before its all said and done.
As for what the monstress is? It's the phantasmal form of the creature inhabiting the the Doomed Cabin. In her own little pocket dimension, an echo chamber where only see reigns supreme. That is until Vampire intrudes into her domain.
She might have overlooked the other 3 but she quickly develops an intense hatred for Vampire and tries to manipulate the other members of the team against her.
She fails to trap Prisoner, Standard, and Vampire in a spacial loop, so she goes after Orphan sensing her true nature. To push her into turning so that maybe she can deal with the others while she is still mostly in an incorporeal state.
Shes quickly developing into one of my more unique creature designs.
I started up by touching up the pic Arising Doom, where I had missed a detail on vampires gloves that just bugged me a lot. XD I designed her gloves so that the finger tips are red and I just plum forgot to add the element back when I did that piece originally. I also touched up the shading a tad here and there. Such small changes that I suspect most people wont recognize that anything had changed.
Were as with Precarious Maneuvers I cam to the realization that her front teeth were way out of perspective, and a bit too uniform where the back teeth were concerned. So I went in and completely redrew them to get them more in the proper perspective, adjusted the roof of her mouth and darkened her neck fur to match how her design has evolved since I originally drew this piece. I also touched up the shading throughout her body and darkened it so it wasn't quite as shiny.
I'm guessing, though, that most people wont be able to spot the differences between the too. Ah well if only my own OCD is left assuaged then it will still have been worth the time I put in.
Copper Tier Patrons and above can have Early Access to all the Novella pages for as little as 2$. Don't forget too though if you only want to do a 1 time donation I'll still gladly give you a single months access up to the level u match pledge wise. ^ _^
2019 Timid Shell
2018 Timid Shell
As I was finishing the last page I went looking through the previous illustrations for the Novella and realized that... Meingotte, the face in this pic looked uuuuugly.
So I dedicated today toward redoing the face to be more up to my current skill level.
Might still be a flawed face overall, but its worlds better than what was there before. > _>
Please tell me what you think. ^ _^
