Came out a lot faster than I expected overall which I'm very grateful for in that I now can get back to my novella! :D
The completed logos! Or at least I think they are. I just put in the last bit of feed back they had. 1 to make the spikes and teeth sharper for the flat version, and that I had forgotten to put the tail on top of the logo for the full version.
Came out a lot faster than I expected overall which I'm very grateful for in that I now can get back to my novella! :D
Wound up having to take the night off due to how tired I've been, but then proceeded to spend the entire night adding the new novella page to my website. XD
I sadly can't show this one off in full till the Novella is ready to launch fully. But! For as little as $2 you can access all the illustrations early as a Copper Tier Patron! :D
I really like how it came out overall. I know it's not quite as exciting a piece as some of the pages that will be included in the book but it my hope is that it helps to emphasize the atmosphere and danger of their situation.
Now I need to decide, do I put out another novella page? or get some more work on the Shewolf Comic? Cast your votes to help me decide! :D
And for sure tell me what you think overall. especially those of you who have had the chances to see the currently finished colored pages. I really need to set up some time to get back into the writing though.
This was originally supposed to just be a small side project but its grown into being what will debut the series. Its sort of like how some Anime do it, where you start in the middle of the series to see how things will be in the thick of it before going back to the origins of each character.
Where I hope to entice you with how the characters interact with one another and the level of dangers they have to deal with on a daily basis. That way my hope is that once we go back to the origins of the various characters that you have a taste of whats to come.
along the way there will be side stories like this shewolf payset and the Chayse family that I want to get into as a means of better gearing up for the big push.
Is a challenge trying to pin down what I want to do with the phantom in the background.
Normally I would have it glowing quite brightly but I don't want it to overpower the main figure, that and I want to avoid making it feel like shes staring at it directly.
Its more a visual representation of her staring out into the void as she descends the ancient staircase.
Got the flats all laid down, and have started working in the primary shadows.
Given the style of lantern the lighting on this piece has to be handled carefully.
I want the phantom in the back to be nearly imperceptible just enough so to cause a creepy sense of unease.
I really like the direction things are moving in though, still still be a lot of pushing and pulling to go but its off to a good start.
Been a challenge trying to find a color scheme best suited to push for a horror pulp theme.
I'm still not quite sold with where it's at just yet but its getting closer.
The big wolf in the back I think is working, but I might just have to go with a more natural color scheme for the girl.
Candle Flames don't feel good enough yet I'll give those another pass later before fully rendering them.
Still a ways to go but I'm still digging how its slowly starting to come together.
Tell me what you all think, does it have that Pulp Horror Vibe yet? Is it too Garrish? or not enough so? Or should i go with something a tad more natural?
Finally got the bulk of the flat colors put together.
I'm trying to go for more of a pulp horror style for the colors with this one, hence the strange color
set for the shewolf so far.
Still a lot of experimenting to go before its all all ready to go.
I'm pretty happy with how her clothing came out tho maybe its still not enough to be considered truly SFW. What do you think?
The clothed variant will be the publicly released version and the Nude variant will be for the Silver Tier and above.
I don't think that these flames are working just it'll get there tho. ^ _^
Phewa, finally finished this one up.
Feels like it might be missing something still, but I'll let the Art Director and his people decide what they need adjusted.
Final invoice has been sent out so I should be free for the next day or so till they get back to me.
Was considering doing a Crimson Dames related illustration.
Perhaps something that could serve as a poster or shirt. that or just a moody transformation scene? Not sure yet. That or just jump right into finishing up a new illustration for the novella.
I really need to get back to finishing writing it too. Its been a sort of by the seat of my pants sort of project so far but doing up a few illustrations in advance helped to inform the writing, which in turn helped to inform further illustrations.
Can't wait to get a solid product out there for the world to see. Then once the novella and comic are complete I'll probably start the prolog story with the chayse family and the wraparound vampire segment.
First of the month is coming up soon. I implore my current patrons to please consider swapping over from Deviant art to the paypal subscriptions. Links in the footer below!
Would really help me to further push what I can accomplish with your support. ^ _^
In the meanwhile please tell me about what you'd like to see next out of me.
Worked in the skyline for a baseline, will likely not be the final version.
The finished version will have the shield activating with power giving a glowing/sparkling effect to his armor and such.
I predict it will be quite the challenge to capture.
Hopefully it doesn't drag on for too long though. Really wanting to get back to my own projects already. TT oTT
I went ahead with a significant redo for the armor to better match a reference I was given. While its still completely different its at least a bit more spiritually thematic than what I had before.
Will be trying to achieve a pearlescant sheen on the main figures for this one. A color I haven't had the best luck in recreating in the past, but hopefully I can figure it out this time around. ^ _^
I'll work in some moody storm clouds in the background and mebe add a few more angry dragon pursuers.
Phewa I think this one is just about done. I'll have to wait to see what the art director requests edit wise. In the meanwhile will try to knock out the second pic as quickly as possible.
Can't wait to get back to my own projects.
Tell me what you think of it overall. ^ _^
I've been experimenting with the color balance and blend modes to see what color layout works best to bring the right feel to the overall piece.
It felt like the dragon being a reddish/orange color was causing its form to bleed into the main character's silhouette a bit too much so I tried desaturating the dragon to match the background a bit more. and seperate them out.
I'm starting to work in the secondary lighting sources now.
I'll break up the red with more oranges as it continues to progress for that rusted blood look.
slowly but surely making it there though.
Got the Flats in so am now working in some of the light sources to better inform the positions of the shadows. I'm hoping to be able to get it completed by tomorrow though I suspect I'll need more back and forth with the art director to really get the colors where they work for them.
Current progress for the vid.
I started dropping in some simple sounds clips in to help inspire where to go next.
I wont be able to have them all the same pace and have this many pics in there.
I'll likely start to focus in on a few key pieces to give more focus to and let the smaller ones speed up or slow down based on how the beat changes.
I'm wondering if I should try including some of the other silhouettes of the Crimson Dames in the same style to show more images at once, or if that would be too distracting.
As a rough concept its coming along, but there still isn't quite that hook yet. I'll need to find an ideal piece of music to bring it all together and help me
In the end I suspect I'll be stripping out some of the pics to let it focus a bit more on the Crimson Dames stuff.
Tell me what you think so far and if u have any ideas you think could spark some inspiration.
Oh yeah please don't forget It would really help me out a ton if those of you are are my patrons could switch over to using my in site set up. Would seriously save me like an additional 50 dollars a month, which would help me big time with off setting the costs of my Adobe subscriptions for these programs.
Oh yeah and if u decide to switch over inform me that you are and I'll send u back your first payment after subscribing that way you wont be getting double charged. ^ o^
Now equipped with a fresh take on my logo I went ahead and upgraded my Adobe Cloud account to be able to have After Effects and Premier Pro. Actually I had to go with the full version (50 a month) so now have access to all of their programs.
So what we have here is an initial sort of rough draft on the concept I was thinking about making as a sort of trailer for the site and generally get peeps more aware of my work and the ways they can support it.
I need to get some music to edit the vid to which will allow me to better plan out the beats and timing. Might look for some public domain static to work in with the images. Towards the end it'll fade out into the full version of the logo, and probably some links to were u can find the page and credit any other creators whose content I end up needing.
Tell me what you think or if you had any ideas that you think would look cool with it all.
I wanted to update my studio logo in preparation for an ad I want to make to use for future process videos to advertise my works.
I should have been working on my commercial projects today but was exhausted today trying to stay awake to get back to a day sleep schedule.
Managed to stay awake long enough so hopefully I get that back on track again soon. XD
I'd love to know what you think of it, whether you like it or not. ^ o^
I'll be attempting something where the image's silhouette becomes a frame to showcase some of my best works with some sort of moody music playing over it for a singular ad, but then also make an end cap out of it for future videos.
Mnrrg after another almost 12 hour session I've finally completed this piece.
My eyes feel like their melting. TT oTT
I'm really happy with how it came out. I do regret that it feels a bit stiff, but that's partially due to my still exploring the design and really wanting to have a good sense for their anatomy before doing anything that would distort their form too severely through forced perspective.
The False Mermaid can actually close her mouth completely without baring her teeth and when she does she's able to close her lips up showing off just her human ones with the monster lips tightly pursed shut to the point of seeming like a vague crack in her visage.
The True Mermaid also has similar such teeth though she cant open her jaw line to nearly such an extreme.
Story wise the 2 are trapped in a rather large research facility but despite the limited space the powers that be are powerless to bring down the False Mermaid without killing the True Mermaid, ash she willingly puts herself in the line of fire to protect the False, just as much as the False will viciously lash out at any soldiers or machines who try to get near them.
Werewolves would be little more than popcorn to this hulking abomination thankfully for them she exists far into the future of the world of Crimson Dames, in a time when mankind was finally starting to grasp the full extent of the lost technology and how to advance it to their cause.
I'll be posting it up to the Perilous Quest Gallery tomorrow as well and cast her out into the depth of the internet to see what shinies she can catch for me. ^ o^
I'd really love to hear what you all think of them and how they came out.
Still waiting on Dragon Shield to contact me about my current assignment, but they were moving house recently so I didn't want to bug them, I'll likely be starting up those projects this Monday but in the meanwhile I'll see if i cant advance the shewolf comic forward another page or so.
another 11 hour work day and shes really starting to come together now.
I can imagine her having some sort of crazy deep bellow and or a high pitch squeal that could shatter glass.
I suddenly want to rewatch Blue Submarine No. 6, which now that I think about it is a major subconscious source of inspiration for this character.
I apologize to my regulars for not playing videos in my streams lately. my followings growth has be come so stagnant of late that I'm looking to try something new to better advertise my work.
The plan is that I'll get clean footage and go back and edit it into a video later to post on youtube.
Issue is I need to throw down like 20 bucks for the for the 2 primary apps I'd need to get the work done from Adobe, and I just can't afford it at the moment.
Also I need to apologize for any troubles you might have accessing the member pages at the moment. Seems that my business account with weebly has expired and until i reup for the month I just wont have access to the higher level features the site is supposed to have.
I stayed up too late layering these flats in. I'm still contemplating if I shouldn't censor this piece in some way, but really the true version should be the version seen here.
I'll play up the lighting to make it look like they've been spotted by a flood light.
The True Mermaid will have a brilliant glow about her, were the False will have more subdued glowy bits like a deep sea creature.
I wonder how many have actually caught on that the True Mermaid only has 1 arm.
Tell me what you all think so far and please help share them around the web and help improve the number of supporters available. ^ _^
The whole set together at last!
Mummy Jar = Bearing a crude representation of the Lich Anubis.
Head Box = Bearing a cursed head that plagues Feif Lords across the frontier.
Monster Box = A very hangry Mimic.
Toy Box = Filled with plush representations of some of the various man eating monsters to plague the world.
Marionette Box = Some assembly required.
Goo Box = Contents under pressure.
Treasure Box = Worth the effort?
Spider Box = Best left buried deep below the earth.
Thise will primarily be used as clickable icons for the various Lore pages, but I'm also contemplating using some of them as illustrations to flesh out the Arcana, Monsters, and Myths/Legends pages.
Some of them did give me some fun ideas to play with doing some brief written articles over. Some of the characters and factions pages are so in depth that their a daunting prospect to begin, but some smaller pages concerning strange devices and or urban legends could be fun too.
I really need to make time to bust out that Spine Esoteric program again and see about using it to add some animation to a few of these. They would be really fun to see in a video game. but they'd need to move to really seal the deal.
Which vessel was your favorite? Did any of them inspire some questions or idea's you'd like to see explored further?
The only way to store your most important organs!
Hah, this Anubis esque character is pretty thick.
This this the set is complete!
Now I can move on to something more interesting.
Well just as soon as I knock out some commercial work. T oT
I kind of really want to do an new elaborate illustration not directly related to the current projects I'm on.
But I guess I've been dragging my feet long enough on these bigger projects.
I really need to get this novella and or comic finished so that I can point to them and say start here.
I really do need to start getting into the habit of writing more too tho to start fleshing out some of the lore sections out.
Everyday I find more pages that still need the new visuals added to. Starting to feel like I'll never get that part finished up.
Brother is trying to help me out with figuring out the code to add a hovering icon with a pop up text box.
I would set it up so that you'll see an icon with my avatar and you would then know that you can hover over it to get more info, like my internal thoughts on the various concepts and designs to be found on my site.
I could even use it to do a bit of role play with the characters by showing their internal thoughts. to help establish their voice some.
Could be a fun way to scatter content across the entire site to be hunted down. And / or maybe even start up a game were u can track down breadcrumbs.
I've been thinking that I need to get back to doing the Roll For Loot contests soon. I will need to change it up some though. I've got so much on my plate right now and not much in the way of funds.
*Cough!* Help support Studio-Aegis by becoming a patron today! *Cough!*
Since I cant afford to give out any very elaborate prizes was thinking of doing sketches again
but on a much smaller scale.
Perhaps doing a contest 1 per week. The roll codes are weighted to give more chances to the higher level patrons. but I also don't want people to feel like they have no chance of winning.
I'm trying to decide between either...
1) All patrons and non patrons who are part of the discord roll off once per week for 1 single sketch.
2) Rabbits, Cats, and Ravens, Roll against each other with the Werewolves having their own roll. 2 possible sketches to win.
3) all patrons roll off once per week, and maybe once a month non patrons are allowed to participate. But only on the same phase per month.
I want to ensure supporters feel like their getting their moneys worth out of helping me out financially but I also need to avoid taking on too much extra work that will just slow my progress down to a crawl.
Another idea I was contemplating was doing draw overs for aspiring artists to help suggest ways they could improve upon their current sketches.
Tell me what you think I'm deeply interested in knowing what you think would be fair.
What forbidden delights does this box hold?
Had a lucky mistake with one of the blend layers that I really liked for the goo leaking out of the box and decided to keep it.
Though its not a precise representation I wonder if anyone recognizes the lock/symbol in the center.
Just 1 more to go and i should finally be far enough along that that I can shift attention away from the overhaul for a while.
I'm kind of feeling like I really should make a 9nth box just to make a 3 sets of 3, and in case i end up needing another.
Would really help to quiet my OCD too. XD
Ended up redesigning this box some.
Originally it was going to be strange artifacts for the arcana section.
It's still a strange artifact but its more interesting now.
I've always been fascinated by these Japanese styled jointed dolls/marionettes.
I'd actually like to own a life size figure of this style some day.
I'll have to either make it myself or hire someone else to do it.
Story wise I do plan to have some of these as enemy creatures eventually.
They start off as the prototypes of what eventually become the panzers.
Only at this stage they have no use of their limbs but full consciousness still.
I've imagine entire video game boss fights using these before. were a massive mechanical spider puppeteers them into lashing out at intruders. I'd like to do another full illustration featuring them down the road.
Is she just being taken out of the box and assembled? Or is she about to be packed up and put into storage?
Man this one took me a while to finish up.
The perspective kept resisting me from beginning to end.
I still don't think that I fully nailed it, but I got it to a point were you should hopefully not notice too much. :\
They are really starting to look cool together tho. :D
