This one took a bit longer than I expected to get penciled up. Will take far longer to ink tho. . o ,
In this scene Vampire is getting ready to activate the tomb when Standard suddenly hears Orphan crying out from the structure above and bolts to save her from whatever threat might be out there. I had the idea that Prisoner might mention that "Hay these are Bloodshade Kudzu, their bad news for cemeteries and old peoples homes." "Well, don't hold it in your hand!"

Today's progress on a new approach to this scene.
It needs to match the lower portion of the shrine that I illustrated already, but I should be able to get more experimental with the upper portion. Not sure if I shouldn't pull back even further with the shrine and vampire. I'm not sure either if I should make a space for Prisoner. Standard I'll keep closer to the front having her react to the screams of Orphan somewhere above. The scene also illustrates a bit of the power struggle between Vampire and Prisoner in that Vampire winds up having to sometimes follow Standards lead when the group is at risk. Despite her will to finish her business there. Standard could never directly challenge Vampires authority but if she just springs into action Vampire tends to have to follow along. Tho she cares nothing for the others she still has need of them and cant let them throw their lives away frivolously. Is shaping up to a much stronger piece overall. This is one of the benefits to doing all the pencil work first, that I can review the pencils well before jumping into the inking stage and can any ideas I feel are lacking. Where before I might have barreled forth without noticing glaring mistakes. I'm not sure if I should put one of the Dames into this piece for scale Tho it does show up again later in "The Pit" scene.
The tendrils surrounding it are mainly plant based, the fluid oozing out of it are... troubling. I'd theorized that its occupant likely has become corrupted by a some sort of lovecraftian entity and thus sealed away to prevent its corrupted blood from spreading. Though that would make me question if it has any possibility of infecting the party. Maybe light exposure is okay given how dormant its been. XD Its form represents the nature of its contents. This piece represents a moment in the Crimson Dames Novella were the party has just made it through a trap of warped space designed to lock them into a spacial loop were they would eventually starve to death.
With Vampire's necromantic barrage however, they manage to break free and find themselves in the heart of the Doom Cabins domain. This is their reaction upon seeing the macabre shrine/tomb of the entity that has been dogging them since they entered the space. It attempted to lure them astray, trap them in a looped space, bury them in rubble, and when all of that failed, it forced Orphan into her shewolf form in an attempt to have her kill the other 3. When all of that failed, the entity opts to assume a corporeal form in order to strike down the Crimson Dames directly. I really like how standards expression came out with this one.
I am seeing some anatomical mistakes I'll need to adjust though, now that I'm seeing with with fresh eyes... well about 25% fresh eyes. Mainly I think I need to show a bit more of Standards back shoulder, and increase the size of her head a tad. Its a scene that gets across a small moment were Orphan is clearly afraid of Vampire who is scene in the next image smiling viciously at a arcane key she uncovered. It also helps to establish just how small Orphan is to Standard. As that difference in scale will be quite removed when she reaches her final wolf form. A remake of my Awakening illustration for my Crimson Dames Novella!
This will actually be the 3rd time attempting this major scene. This one fought me every step of the way! XD It illustrates the moment were Orphans consciousness snaps back to awareness and she just can't deal with it. Its also the first time said has happened for her. Usually Orphan's body goes through such a massive amount of growth that she can't cope with the intensity of the pain causing her lycan form to lock out her consciousness for her own protection, meaning that she has been runing on raw instinct this entire time. Which is usually a highly dangerous time for anyone not Orphan in Orphans vicinity.
The rabbit masks represent the rabbits shes eaten in wolf form. There 1 skull is that one situation were the victim wasn't a rabbit, but her own mother. Please be sure to tell me what you think of this one. Ima work on trying to pencil up as many of the pieces I can Identify as needing to be made from scratch or updated with more modern pencils. before having to get back into the slog of the inking process. Man I need to find me a faster way to deal with inking. Redrew the new page for the start of Orphan's transformation. And started up a new version for the mid sequence. I like the pose but the angle isn't quite working just yet.
I had mocked in the door to see what it would look like tho its not quite working yet. I think I'll experiment with instead of a door that its the floor and perhaps Standard is standing over here trying to decide what to do before she runs out of time. She's left having to contemplate killing her if there's no sound way to subdue her before she fully turns. Standard too is quite experienced with how to fight werewolves at this point in the story line. I got the cut content posted up to the Crimson Dames Gallery, as well as posted the High Res Files to the Copper Tier High Rest pages. I'll have to adjust the Novella galleries later. since some of those pages will need to go. I wanted to tweak the final form of Orphan just a tad more before posting it up as I noticed some details that needed just a slight adjustment shading wise. Don't forget the Roll for Loot contest ends this Saturday, and we haven't had any boosts. :0 Which is quite the shame as its as little as $2 to up the reward pots. :\
So thats the plan for the now. Actually I do still like the third pic of the sequence alot. So I was thinking that I'd take it and convert it to a full page piece, extend the visible image to more of the body so its filling the entire page.
Was thinking of doing a pic too where we see Orphan early on cowering behind Standard all timid and small. To let people have a better sense of just how massive orphan becomes. She looks scrawny in this sketch tho because her bones are lengthening and the muscles havnt quite caught up yet the way they will in the pic where Standard is trying to pin her down. Will probably take me the rest of the month to do this but will also help with attracting new peeps and in the end make this sequence of events look a lot stronger, since this is really where the money will be for the target audience. I also want to touch up some of the other existing pages still by changing up the color pallets of some to match other newer pages, and to do 3 full pages of Standard Orphan and Vampire struggling against tendrils. Oh yeah I also did want to redo the page where Orphan mentally awakens while in wolf form. Very soon here too I need to get back to the actual writing to integrate the new ideas these images have given me as well as have time to draw up any new good ideas I get from the writing process. I'll have to set aside days tho where I'm just writing and not streaming as it takes a lot more concentration for me to get in the grove with writing compared to drawing. Is a completely different set of creative muscles. Tell me what you think tho, its very important to me that peeps are able to get their input on how this project is developing. ^ _^ |
